Toploader: backpacks that open from the top

A toploader is a backpack you pack from the top. It opens wide, so you can reach straight in and see everything at a glance. This makes packing quick and easy, even with bulky items such as a jacket, sports kit or spontaneous grocery shopping. The Japan RE toploaders from a/u by aunts & uncles are in certified recycled nylon and weatherproof, so a sudden shower won't bother you. Whether on your way to work, on a weekend trip or travelling further afield: they combine plenty of storage space with a clean, urban look.

Thoughtful down to the last detail: Mikuni RE and Nojiri RE

Our new toploaders come in two sizes: Mikuni RE with around 11 litres for everyday city life and Nojiri RE with around 20 litres for those who carry more. Both feature a main compartment with a two-way zip and a separate laptop compartment behind it. Inside, a mesh pocket with key strap, slip pockets and pen holders keep things organised, while a front zip pocket keeps small items within easy reach. Side pockets take a water bottle or small umbrella.

Comfortable to carry, well protected

The ergonomically padded back panel and adjustable padded shoulder straps make longer journeys comfortable. Nojiri RE also features a chest strap for extra stability. When you're carrying less, the volume can be compressed in depth. The nylon, certified to the Global Recycled Standard (GRS), is lightweight, durable and doesn't show marks easily, even in pale colours. A water-repellent finish and a PFAS-free coating provide additional protection against moisture. Leather appliqués give both models the signature a/u look.
